Reviews

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
After picking up his sunburst Fender Jazzmaster and greeting the audience, Ryan Adams and his band The Shining began to hit the opening chords of “Trouble,” a cut off his most recent self-titled album. This wasn’t a night of the soft acoustic jams Mr. Adams is sometimes known for. No, it was a night of growling guitars, thundering drums and a groovy piano backing Mr. Adams’ timeless tunes. Another cut from his most recent album was next: “Gimme Something Good,” a mix of classic rock guitar and a bluesy melody that got the entire audience moving. He traded his Fender guitar for another and launched into “New York, New York,” a song that shot him into the national spotlight and mainstream playlists. It was a beautiful version of the song. Plugging in and removing the acoustic element was a risky choice but Mr. Adams is a master of his craft. He nailed the quick moving lyrics and the crowd helped him with the chorus, yelling, “I still love you New York!” [full review here]
