Adams and his guests opened with “To Be Young (Is To Be Sad, Is To Be High)” from Ryan’s 2000 solo debut Heartbreaker. One of the set’s big surprises came soon after when the guitarist dusted off “Pearls On A String” from 2007’s Easy Tiger for the first time since 2008. However there were plenty of other bust outs in store including “Tears Of Gold” (last played in 2007), “Trains” (last played in 2006), “Bartering Lines” (last played in 2011) and “Chin Up, Cheer Up” (last played in 2011). Ryan also worked in a pair of improvised songs, one about blisters and another about holding the peppers as well as rare cover of Dio’s “Holy Diver.” [full review here]

Ryan Adams returned to the stage with a solo set at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival in Colorado. While originally slated as a solo acoustic show, Adams mixed it up by welcoming Nicki Bluhm and The Infamous Stringdusters to the fold for a full band acoustic set that served as a preview for the group’s collaborative Newport Folk set in July. No Depression
There were clues suggesting that this show might come together as it did. We learned last month that the acts would share the stage at the Newport Folk Festival, so the Telluride set made sense with the Stringdusters in town for their own show later in the festival. This writer got his first clue in the artist merch tent, which had Ryan Adams/Infamous Stringduster t-shirts for sale. [full review here]

Rolling Stone
This first-time collaboration might seem strange: An indie rock star with a volatile reputation and the darlings of modern bluegrass? But it was a match made in heaven, with the Infamous Strindgusters' precise instrumentation and traditional flair (as well as the soulful voice of Nicki Bluhm) the perfect accompaniment to Ryan Adams' gritty genius and punk-rock vibe. Occasionally alt-country gave way to true country, making Adams classics like "Come Pick Me Up," "Oh My Sweet Carolina" and "Let It Ride" all the more robust. Improvised songs, rare bust-outs and a left-field cover of Dio's "Holy Diver" rounded out the set. Another joint performance is slated for the Newport Folk Festival in July, complete with Adams' hilarious, sometimes strange, stage banter. [full review here]
