If you’d only heard his solo work, which ranges from wistful to inconsolable, his onstage persona is exactly nothing like you’d expect: no artistic temperament, spontaneous crying, or stoney glares. Instead, scattered among an almost entirely electric rock set (“Cold Roses,” “Fix It,” and new single “Gimme Something Good,” to name a few), he’d commiserate with fans about being subjected to new material at a show, and improvise blues songs based off of whatever popped into his head. The Belly Up venue is just amazing, and being front and center literally 2-3 feet away from Ryan was almost uncomfortable from a personal space issue, but I wouldn't trade it. So, to the questions: Willybubba - Ryan went on really late, so his show was cut short. We could see the playlist and he skipped 3-4 songs, including Political Scientist, Wrecking Ball (new tune), and due to time gave the audience the choice of Danzig's Mother or Come Pick Me Up (the crowd voted for Mother since Ryan was really pitching how cool it was). Based on Twitter posts he was having a hard time with oxygen. If you've ever travelled to high altitudes (even if you live in Denver like I do) it can be tough on your body. So long and short of it, I don't think his intention for the show to be short. Also, he has only played 5 [full review here]Write a reviewWere you at the show?
