Adams, who appeared in Apatow's This is 40, is completely zoned in during the performance, which you can see in the video below, via Consequence of Sound. The blue lighting creates a fitting backdrop as Adams digs deeper into the song, which is completely stripped of the album's production. It would be foolish to assume that Adams revamped the song strictly because of his divorce with Moore because the singer has the ability to bend most of his work any way he pleases, but why choose "Gimme Something Good" so far past its release? As Craig Ferguson's run as host of the Late Late Show on CBS came to an end recently, the network has enlisted various hosts to fill in before James Corden takes over permanently. This week, Judd Apatow took the helm and last night welcomed pal Ryan Adams to the show to perform a stripped down version of "Gimme Something Good" with the legendary Don Was on bass. Apatow mentioned that Adams was in his 2012 movie This Is 40, starring wife Leslie Mann and Paul Rudd, with his song "Lucky Now" played live during the final scene of the film. [full review here]

Last night’s episode featured director Judd Apatow, who brought along Ryan Adams to serve as musical guest. In turn, Adams brought along Don Was to accompany him for a stripped down performance of “Gimme Something Good”. Adams also played guitar as Apatow gave his goodbye speech.
