No Depression Five Year Anniversary Party First AMY. First Damn, Sam (I Love A Woman That Rains). First The Fools We Are As Men. First Just Like A Whore. Damn, Sam (I Love A Woman That Rains) = “Here’s my existentialist, absurd, Texas, singer-songerwriter song.” The Fools We Are As Men = “I think I’m gonna play a song I wrote a couple a days ago. I'm gonna have to read it off this sheet . . . . OK, so I just wrote this. It probably really stinks.” Just Like A Whore = “Off the top of my head? You know what? OK, let’s humor the rock gods. I was singing this in the shower, and I told Van about it. But I haven’t written it yet but I kinda know some of the words. I’m not kidding, I swear to God. Let’s see if it makes any sense . . . . OK, I haven’t written this yet but I know some of the words. Somebody said make up something, so I’m gonna try and finish a song, at the expense of everybody that paid to get in.” See http://groups.yahoo.com/group/whiskeytownavenues/message/3644 for a fan review. This show often circulates with a pre-concert voicemail message left by Ryan Adams for Peter Blackstock of No Depression magazine.
